Rainy days do not always mean a lower electricity bill. The weather may feel cooler, but lights stay on longer, laundry takes more time to dry, and humid rooms can still make families reach for the aircon.
At an electricity rate of ₱12 per kWh, every kilowatt-hour saved cuts about ₱12 from the bill.
On cooler days, use an electric fan or natural ventilation before turning on the aircon. If an aircon uses around 1 kWh per hour, cutting use by two hours a day saves about ₱24 daily, or around ₱720 a month. When you need to use the aircon, keep it at 24°C and clean the filter so it cools more efficiently.
Avoid small, frequent laundry loads. If one washing cycle uses around 0.5 kWh, skipping four unnecessary cycles a month saves around ₱24. Wash full but not overloaded batches to save electricity, water, and time.
Use LEDs when lighting is needed and switch off lights in unused rooms. Replacing five 15-watt lamps with five 9-watt LED lamps can save about 4.5 kWh a month, or around ₱54.
Humidity also matters. Use exhaust fans, improve airflow, keep floors dry, and avoid drying too many clothes inside closed rooms. The less humid a room is, the more comfortable it feels even without aircon.
Together, smarter aircon use, better laundry habits, and efficient lighting can save around 66.5 kWh, or about ₱798 a month. This rainy season, small changes at home can mean real savings on the monthly bill.
